Homemade finger paint and play dough

I decided to try out a couple of new recipes for finger paint and play dough.  Click here to check out my previous attempt at making paint for the little ones.  Both recipes required "cooking", but they were fairly easy to make.

Finger paint recipe
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
2 1/2 cups cold water
2 cups boiling water
Food Coloring

Mix the 2 cups of flour with the 2 teaspoons of salt. Add the 2 1/2 cups of cold water; stir until smooth. Gradually add this mixture to the 2 cups of boiling water. Boil until the mixture becomes smooth and thick. Add the food coloring, a little at a time, until you get the desired color.
(I stored mine in some Ikea spice jars that I never used)

Play dough recipe
3 cups flour
1.5 cups salt
6 tsp. cream of tarter
3 tbsp. oil
3 cups water

Pour all ingredients into a large pot. Stir constantly over medium heat until a dough ball forms by pulling away from the sides. Knead dough until the texture matches play dough (1-2 minutes). Store in plastic container. Should last for at least 3 months.
The kiddos l.o.v.e.d. the play dough!  It was a bit stickier than the regular (store-bought) kind, but other than that I couldn't tell much difference.
I found a few more recipes that I might try, but these two were definitely a hit!
